MEDICAL AND SOCIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PATIENTS WITH SEVERE WORK-RELATED INJURY AT THE AMBULATORY STAGE OF REHABILITATION: OUTCOMES OF THE RESTORATION OF WORKING ABILITY

Abstract
Work-related injury is one of the causes of disability in the employable population in the Russian Federation. Adequate treatment at the stationary and ambulatory stages is the basis the return of injured persons to work.
Objective – to analyze the medical and social parameters of persons with severe work-related injury and the outcomes of their ambulatory rehabilitation.
Material and methods. We analyzed the outcomes of the treatment and rehabilitation of 52 patients with severe work-related injury at the hospitals of the city of Novokuznetsk in 2023-2025.
Results. We found that persons with severe work-related injury were mostly middle-aged men (84.6%) who were workers (80.8%). The main causes of severe work-related injury were multiple and combined injury (57.7%), spinal injury (25.8%) and fractures of tubular bones (11.5%). The longest total duration of treatment and rehabilitation was observed in patients with multiple and combined injury, fractures of tubular bones and spine fractures (6.7 to 7.8 months). The same groups of patients needed a long ambulatory rehabilitation (6.9 months).
Conclusion. After the provision of medical care characterized by long duration, continuity and technological effectiveness, in over 80% of persons with severe work-related injury, as shown by medical and social evaluation, the loss of working ability was less than 60%, i.e., the patients could either go on working at the same place or undergo vocational retraining.
