Abstract

Military operations have a significant impact on the mental state of the population, especially children who are in evacuation conditions and have experienced stressful events. Psychological consequences include anxiety, fears, decreased feelings of security, and difficulties in social adjustment.
Objective – to determine the level and dynamics of various forms of anxiety in children exposed to traumatic stress as a result of military operations.
Materials. The study involved children from peaceful territories (n=164) and children who were in evacuation conditions (n = 189). Anxiety was assessed on the Spielberg-Khanin scale, and indicators of reactive and personal anxiety were recorded in three time periods: before, during, and a year after the evacuation.
Methods. Psychodiagnostic methods of anxiety assessment, analysis of the frequency of low, moderate and high levels of anxiety, as well as statistical data processing were used to identify significant differences between the groups.
Results. During the evacuation, the frequency of high levels of reactive anxiety increased 2.8 times, and personal anxiety increased 1.9 times compared with children in peaceful territories (p < 0.001). A year after the evacuation, the proportion of children with high levels of reactive anxiety decreased by 9% due to an increase in moderate levels, while personal anxiety remained the same.
Conclusion. Military stress has a pronounced negative effect on the psycho-emotional state of children, contributing to the formation of stable anxiety reactions. Increased personal anxiety acts as a predictor of the risk of developing clinical mental disorders, which emphasizes the need for timely diagnosis and prevention of psychotraumatic consequences in adolescents.
