Abstract

The purpose of the study is to assess the risk factors that contribute to high susceptibility to influenza and acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), including the new coronavirus, in pregnant women, as well as to determine obstetric, perinatal outcomes and the effectiveness of the use of recombinant interferon alpha-2b (Grippferon®) to prevent these infections.
Materials and methods. The study included 1350 pregnant women. At the retrospective stage, an analysis of risk factors contributing to high susceptibility to influenza and respiratory viral infections was carried out (group IA – 200 pregnant women). Group IB included 200 pregnant women whose gestation proceeded without manifestations of ARVI. At the prospective stage, a comparative study was carried out: the main group (n = 500) included women using the drug recombinant interferon alpha-2b Grippferon® (nasal drops; 1 dose contains 500 IU) for prevention during the epidemic of influenza and ARVI. The comparison group (n = 490) included pregnant women who did not use prophylaxis.
Results. Among women who had had influenza, Covid-19 and other acute respiratory viral infections during pregnancy, respiratory and ENT diseases were recorded among extragenital pathologies 4.5 times more often than in women who had not suffered from acute respiratory viral infections during gestation -organs, as well as other risk factors: iron deficiency anemia, diseases of the cardiovascular system, vaginitis and bacterial vaginosis, diseases of the urinary system, nicotine intoxication, excess or deficiency of body weight, obesity, endocrine diseases, HIV, viral hepatitis. In the group of pregnant women taking Grippferon®, the total incidence of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections, including Covid-19, was 2.7 times less than in the group where pregnant women did not undergo drug prophylaxis. This made it possible to reduce the incidence of mild influenza and ARVI in pregnant women by 2.6 times, reduced the frequency of moderate forms by 3.1 times, improved obstetric outcomes by 2.2 times, the frequency of premature births decreased by 2.5 times, and perinatal outcomes improved 2.3 times.
Conclusion. The prophylactic use of recombinant interferon alpha-2b (Grippferon) by pregnant women during the influenza and ARVI epidemics confirmed its antiviral effectiveness.
